This whole earth is family - From human-centrism to ecocentrism: 16th October 25 (6.30pm for 7pm start)

£0.00

The Indian activist Sunderlal Bahuguna stated: we ought to recognise “this whole earth” as our extended family, and renounce the human-centric greed we all experience from living in our “money order economy”.

In this thought-provoking session led by Sociologist Dr Peter Gardner, we will explore the deep-rooted human-centrism shaping our diets, economies, laws, climate goals and outlooks. We’ll examine the alternative: ecocentrism—a worldview that sees all life, from octopuses to oysters, from forests to rivers, from soils to ecosystems – as holding fundamental value. Together, we will think through some of the implications of applying an ecocentric outlook in our everyday lives and across society.

Peter’s session will include a one-pot vegetarian supper and discussion.

Jacobs Well, Trinity Lane, York, YO1 6EL

Doors open at 6.30pm for drinks. Talk starts at 7pm.

Please note that most of our events take place in an upstairs space and we do not have a lift so our venue is not fully accessible. Please get in touch if you have accessibility issues via [email protected].

This session is part of York Environment Festival and therefore there is no charge for this event, although booking is still required. Donations will be welcomed on the evening.
