Rob Hopkins Imagination Event Legacy

On the 10th July 2026, Poesis in conjunction with Joseph Rowntree Foundation ran a workshop with by Rob Hob Hopkins author and imagination activist Rob Hopkins.

People of York, representing all different perspectives, were invited to to join a special workshop, to come together to explore the challenges and opportunities of this beautiful city we are all part of, from a fresh perspective.

It was part of a wider touring programme, but also a moment in its own right, and we invited around 50 organisations, including schools,  community organisations, local authorities, religious groups and big business, to represent York; thinking together about the future of our city. In particular exploring ‘What if the people of York used imagination to build resilience for the future?’

This page is to share some of the thinking that came out of the day

Next step 3: Manifestation in the middle — plant things — show it happening — model the uses of the space

Next step 4: Talk to the people of the racecourse... show them personal possibilities

What if school students choose, grew and made the school dinners?

Next step 1: Find school for trial run

Next step 2: External help (chefs, nutritional expert, farmer)

Next step 3: Term for learning about the cooking, gardening and for the right time for which foods

Next step 4: Start, growing and gathering the things for it, then actually make it and eat it
